Falafel, Chick(pea) Nuggets

These nuggets don't discriminate and go well with (almost?) every preference. A light crispy salad pairs well with the warmth and softness of the nuggets and a slight sour sauce adds a freshness these nuggets love. They are only slightly spicy on their own, but a Sweet Chili Sauce brings out more fire then one may expect.

So with these nuggets everyone can get exactly what they want.

INGREDIENTS (creates about 20 Falafel nuggets) 1 tsp. Fennel Seeds 1 Green Chilli 1 tsp. Caraway Seeds 400 gr Chick Peas 1 tsp. Chili Flakes Pinch of Sea Salt Juice of 1 Lemon Handful of Coriander 2 tbsp. Flour Peanut Oil/Frying Oil Additional: Wraps, lettuce, sauce, etc. This recipe is just the nuggets, finish them off anyway you wish.

  1. Take a small frying pan and place it on a small fire on the stove. Add the Fennel Seeds, roughly chop the Green Chilli and add the Caraway Seeds. Heat them until you start to smell them.

  2. Put the Chick Peas into a food processor, add the Chili Flakes and the heated spices. Add a pinch of Sea Salt, the Lemon Juice and Coriander. Puree the Peas until smooth, add the Flour and blend just a bit more.

  3. With wet hands make small burgers from the Puree. They should be about 1,5 cm thick and 5 cm diameter.

  4. When you’re done the Falafel Nuggets need to be fried. This can be done in any fryer. If you don’t own one you can do the following*: Take a large pan with a high edge, pour Peanut Oil in the pan until it is about 1 cm deep. Place the lid on the pan and heat it on a medium high fire. This may take a while, with eye on safety don’t be tempted to speed up this process! When the oil is hot carefully place the nuggets into the oil. They need about 2 minutes on one side, then flip over for another minute on the other side.

  5. Serve the nuggets with some wraps, lettuce or Coleslaw and/or some sauce. Enjoy them any way you want to, easy as that.

*: !!! Be extra careful if working on a gas stove, Oil that becomes to hot may catch fire. Oil fire can’t be killed with water and adding water actually makes things worse. Use a non glass lid or wet towel to cut of oxygen and regain control. For extra safety tips check this video!!!
